The Memphis Jazz Workshop’s instrument petting zoo offers young students and old to get up close and personal with musical instruments that they normally see and hear in the concert setting. There will be a variety of instruments available for people to pick up and try them out. MJW will staff and students giving pointers and discussing how the instruments work.
The petting zoo offers a great chance to pick up an instrument, learn how to hold it, find out what family it belongs to, and how it might work in a jazz ensemble. There will be string, woodwind, brass, keyboard and percussion instruments at MoSH Central. The follow-up to the petting zoo experience will be a jazz concert featuring the students from the Memphis Jazz Workshop. This is where all will experience the fun of how the different instrument families work together.
