Gallery Docents

Be a part of the visitor’s experience as they explore the Museum’s newest exhibit, Savages and Princesses: The Persistence of Native American Stereotypes. This exhibit brings together Native American visual artists that explore how to represent Native Americans authentically. Docents are needed January 28 – March 16 Wednesday – Saturday 10:00 AM – 1:30PM and 1:30 PM – 5:00PM and Sundays Noon – 5:00. Training is required for this volunteer opportunity.

Gallery Touch Cart Volunteers

Help visitors learn more about the artifacts and specimens at the Museum by inviting them to stop by our “Touch Carts” and learn about what’s in the glass cases.

The Science of Beer – Friday, January 14, 2022 – 5:00 PM -10:00 PM

Volunteer for an evening of learning about local beers, great local restaurants, and the science of beer making. Volunteers must be 21 years and over to for this event.

AutoZone Dome Sharpe Planetarium

Volunteers are needed Tuesday- Sunday to assist with planetarium shows, ensure safety of visitors and the planetarium, and to help prepare the planetarium between shows. The volunteer position will require extended periods of standing and walking.

Lichterman Nature Center

 

Privet Pull:  Saturdays in January & February 8:30 AM – Noon / No Privet on January 1 or 29

Enjoy being outdoors at Lichternman Nature Center while helping to get rid of invasive plants like privet, wisteria, and honeysuckle. Registration and orientation is required. This is a great volunteer opportunity for individuals and service group projects. Please contact 901.636.2221 or nature.reservations@memphistn.gov for more information

The Bird and the Seeds: Saturday, January 29 – 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM

Volunteers will assist in workshop areas, seed swamp, bird watching seminars, art and crafts, demonstrations, and more.

Backyard Wildlife Center Volunteers

Learn about native wildlife as you assist with the care and feeding of the animals at Lichterman’s Backyard Wildlife Center.

Greenhouse Volunteers

Plant lovers needed to help in Lichterman’s Plant Propagation Center. Volunteers will assist with weeding, watering and propagating plants in the Greenhouse. Volunteers must be physically able to assist with all aspects of plant bed maintenance.

Trail Blazers

Individuals and groups needed to resurface 1.5 miles of crushed limestone trails, and help keep the trails clear of debris. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots, long pants and lightweight long-sleeve shirts. We also encourage volunteers to bring work gloves, sun screen and insect repellant. Water and tools will be provided.

Saturday Volunteer Greeters
Greeters will welcome visitors to the Nature Center, assist at sign in table, give directions, and help monitor front lobby. This is a long-term volunteer position. Volunteers must be able to stand for periods of time and walk around the lobby.
