The Friends

Become a Member of The Friends of MoSH

The Friends of the Museum of Science and History (MoSH) is a volunteer organization originally formed in 1968 as Friends of the Pink Palace Museum. The Friends’ mission is to provide volunteers, financial support, and enhancement of community awareness for MoSH. The Friends welcome all adult members.

Throughout the year, The Friends seek opportunities to fulfill our mission of supporting MoSH, including the Museum, Lichterman Nature Center, and the Historic Houses. Friends help with plant sales, conduct tours at the Mallory-Neely House, volunteer for special events and as exhibit docents, and most notably organize the annual Pink Palace Crafts Fair.

The annual Pink Palace Crafts Fair was founded in 1973. The outstanding juried artists and the demonstrating craftsmen make our award-winning Crafts Fair a popular and anticipated community event while raising funds for MoSH. Past projects have included Stomp in the Swamp and Whiskey in the Wild benefitting the Lichterman Nature Center. There will be opportunities to plan and participate in new events in the future.

How can I participate in supporting The Friends and MoSH?

All Friends are strongly encouraged to play a major role in the Pink Palace Crafts Fair held the last weekend in September each year. There are volunteer opportunities throughout the year in preparation for the Fair as well as a variety of staffing needs during the Fair itself.

Members are encouraged to attend monthly members’ program meetings as often as possible.

Friends may serve as officers or committee members, participate in social activities and programs, and assist with fundraising projects for The Friends.

Friends may also serve as volunteers on a regular basis or as needed at any MoSH facility and event:

The Museum (including the Giant Screen Theater and Sharpe Planetarium)

Lichterman Nature Center

Mallory-Neely Historic Home

See the Volunteer page for detailed information about volunteering at MoSH.

Are there regular meetings?

The Friends meet at the MoSH main campus (the Museum) or Lichterman Nature Center on the 4th Tuesday of each month – August through May. To accommodate professional members, at least two meetings a year are held at night. Informative guest speakers present programs at most meetings. The May meeting each year is the end-of-year luncheon announcing new officers and the volunteer of the year. All members are welcome at all meetings.
