Live Animal Experiences

Bring students face-to-face with animal ambassadors

Live animal experiences are designed as 45-minute staff-led programs with content options for mammals, insects, reptiles, and nocturnal animals.

School-aged birthdays

Museum birthday parties with guided activities

Birthday parties include reserved space, gallery access during the reserved period, an age-appropriate themed craft, and a staff-led themed activity or live animal show during the first hour.

Up to 25 child attendees: $500 Up to 50 child attendees: $1000

Lichterman Nature Center

25 child attendees max: $500

Museum members receive $50 off per party room. There is no deposit. Full payment is due the day of the event upon arrival before room setup.

Available times and details are subject to change. Staff may refer parties to special events if the party is not suitable for the education party experience.

Before you bring the cake

Food policies

  • Food and drink are only allowed inside the identified party room.
  • Food and drink are not allowed in the galleries.
  • All food and drink must be commercially prepared and in original packaging.
  • MoSH does not provide decor, tablecloths, food, beverages, utensils, heat sources, or guaranteed refrigeration/freezer space.

Shared space policies

  • No outside contractors are currently allowed.
  • Fire sources, balloons, glitter, glow sticks, confetti, piñatas, ceiling-hung decorations, and sharp utensils are not allowed.
  • Only painter’s tape may be used to decorate walls.
  • Alcohol, marijuana, illegal drugs, weapons, and illicit items are not allowed on or near MoSH property.

Sample party agenda

Before Museum opens to Public Museum Staff sets furniture and assembles programming materials, live specimens, etc. Craft materials may be withheld from tables until Guest arrival, in the event that there are tablecloths or other table decor to prioritize.

10:30am

Museum opens to the public; complimentary setup time begins and the room opens to the reservation party.

11:00am

Party arrival and party craft. Museum Staff circulate the party room for craft guidance as needed.

11:30am

Birthday greeting and animal show led by Museum Staff.

Noon

Cake and sharing. No staff programming.

12:30pm

Explore museum galleries, the Backyard Wildlife Center, or join public programs taking place during this time.

1:00pm

Close out and complimentary breakdown time.

1:30pm

Room closes to the reservation party.

Scouts programming

Scouts Badge workshops

Scouts programming includes one complete badge experience led by Museum Staff, public gallery access during the reserved period, One Museum-themed fun patch for each Scout, and an indoor or outdoor space for a mid-experience break.

Scouts participating in a museum program

All Scouts must be accompanied by adults. A ratio of 1 adult for every 10 Scouts is recommended. Scout leaders and authorized adults who are actively assisting may join at no cost.

Food policies

  • MoSH does not provide service materials, refrigeration, or heating for food or beverages.
  • Limited room-temperature storage may be available at the patron’s risk.
  • Food and drink are only allowed inside the identified break room during the break.

Shared space policies

  • No outside contractors are currently allowed.
  • Alcohol, marijuana, illegal drugs, weapons, and illicit items are not allowed on or near MoSH property.
  • Running, horseplay, screaming/shouting, climbing exhibits, littering, and damaging museum property are forbidden.
  • Museum staff members have final say on what activities are not permitted.
