New exhibits, free general admission days, and hires announced for the nonprofit organization
MEMPHIS—Memphis Museums of Science & History (MoSH), the managing organization over the Pink Palace Museum & Manson and Lichterman Nature Center among other treasured assets, has announced a national search for its next leader.
Kevin Thompson resigned from the role of Executive Director at the end of the calendar year. Jeff King, COO, has assumed the role of Interim Executive Director & COO as the board of directors guide the organization’s hiring process. King joined MoSH in 2021 after ten years in operations and visitor engagement roles at the Denver Art Museum.
“We are grateful to Kevin for his commitment to our organization since 2020 and wish him the best in his new endeavors,” said Duncan Galbreath, MoSH board chair. The MoSH board of directors have engaged Museum Search & Reference to guide the national search for its next executive director.
This calendar year brings MoSH advancements across its sites, from exhibits and events to new employees.
“We are excited to continue finding meaningful ways to engage and educate all ages through our spaces and programs,” said Interim Executive Director & COO Jeff King. “We just held our sold-out annual fundraiser, Science of Beer, and our FOOD exhibit from Paris just opened at the Pink Palace. There is great momentum as we enter this year.”
Pink Palace’s newest traveling exhibit, “FOOD: Science, Culture, and Cuisine,” has just opened, featuring an interactive, multisensory exploration of the science of food, culinary technique, and art of feasting. Individuals who bring canned goods donations for the Mid-South Food Bank will receive $5 off admission.
After much anticipation for a NASA-funded free admission day at Pink Palace this past Wednesday surrounding the upcoming launch of Artemis II, MoSH has announced that it will host an Artemis II simulcast once NASA sets its official date this spring.
Effective immediately, during Pink Palace daily operating hours, AutoZone Dome at Sharpe Planetarium access will be included with a full priced exhibit ticket.
Additionally, beginning this month, the Pink Palace will offer “Free Third Thursday” with individual General Admission entry free of charge on the third Thursday of each month. On Free Third Thursdays, programming in the Giant Screen Theater, AutoZone Dome at Sharpe Planetarium, and FOOD traveling exhibit may be accessed for just $5 each.
At Lichterman Nature Center, MoSH has hired Aubri Zogg, full-time Animal and Programs Supervisor. Zogg recently served as Senior Hospital Zoologist at the Dallas Zoo and also held roles at the Lee Richardson Zoo and Sunset Zoo.
“I’m excited for Aubri to join our team and lend her experience to new creative programming this Spring at Lichterman,” said King.
