MEMPHIS—On Sunday, November 30, the Metal Museum, National Civil Rights Museum, and Pink Palace Museum & Mansion invite locals and visitors to enjoy their galleries and museum gift stores on the ninth annual national Museum Store Sunday.
“As participating cultural institutions of the Museum Store Association (MSA), we appreciate the campaign’s slogan ‘Shop with Purpose,’ because that’s what this is all about,” said Jeff King, COO of MoSH, the parent organization over treasured Memphis natural history, science and culture assets including the Pink Palace Museum & Mansion. “It’s more than a souvenir — it’s a piece of Memphis.”
Museum store purchases directly support these organizations by funding exhibitions, educational programming and preservation efforts.
“By shopping at the Metal Museum, you are supporting our mission to preserve, promote, and advance the art and craft of fine metalwork while giving your loved ones meaningful, handmade gifts,” said Metal Museum Store Manager Beth Lonsinger. “From artisan jewelry to striking metal art to utilitarian and decorative objects, each piece reflects the skill and creativity of talented artists and tells the story of the craft. As the only institution of its kind, the Metal Museum offers a truly unique shopping experience.”
After touring and experiencing the power of Memphis’ museum experiences, a visit to the store is a natural next step — Pink Palace is proud to be on Memphis’ first-ever MONOPOLY board with the board games for sale in their store. In addition to the in-person experience, the National Civil Rights Museum’s online store also offers unique collectibles for purchase anytime and relevant books to continue the dialogue.
“Every item in our holiday collection was chosen with care because gift giving should carry meaning as well as joy,” said Sherryl Tucker, National Civil Rights Museum Senior Director of Operations. “Museum Store Sunday reminds people that every purchase supports our community and advances the Museum’s mission. When you choose gifts that educate, inspire, and fund our programs, you help us honor history and push for a more just future. We want visitors to feel good about what they give and proud of what their dollars make possible.”
The number of participating cultural institutions has tripled since the Museum Store Association (MSA) launched Museum Store Sunday in 2017. While Museum Store Sunday takes place once a year, consumers are encouraged to shop at museum stores for any occasion. “People want to shop locally but often don’t know where to start,” said Colleen Higginbotham, president of MSA. “Museum stores make it easy by offering artisan-made goods year-round, serving as a one-stop destination for meaningful gifts—from birthdays to holidays and everything in between. Purchases uplift creators while enabling museums to thrive in the communities they serve.”
