A Memphis museum organization has found its leader.

The Memphis Museums of Science & History (MoSH) has announced the appointment of a new executive director, the museum’s COO Jeff King.

Previous executive director Kevin Thompson resigned from the role at the end of 2025. Thompson was MoSH’s executive director since 2020.

The MoSH board of trustees held a national search with the assistance of Boston-based Museum Search & Reference.

“Throughout his interim leadership, he has demonstrated that he understands not only where this organization has been, but also the tremendous opportunity ahead,” MoSH board chair Gwyn Fisher said in a statement. “The board is confident that Jeff has the vision, experience, and commitment to lead our museums into their next chapter — expanding our reach, strengthening our impact, and ensuring these treasured institutions continue to serve our community for generations to come.”

After Thompson’s resignation, King served as interim executive director. Prior to his role as COO, he was director of guest services. At MoSH, he has overseen education, exhibitions and collections, marketing, theaters and planetarium operations, public programming, and other operational functions.

Before joining MoSH, King was director of operations at the Denver Art Museum. He holds a bachelor of arts in fine and studio arts from Fort Lewis College.

I am grateful for the confidence of the board and proud to work alongside such a talented and dedicated staff,” King said in a statement. “Together, we will build upon this strong foundation by updating our permanent exhibits, expanding access for visitors throughout Memphis and the broader region, growing our signature events, and creating meaningful experiences that inspire curiosity, connection, and discovery.”
